Gus is 8!
Last week Gus celebrated his eighth birthday! We can’t believe he’s already eight, even though he’s acted like an old man for at least the past several years. Basically as soon as David brought Milton him, Gus decided he was now old. Before Milton, we thought Gus needed a younger brother because Gus was being too rough on Kat, but then once he had a younger brother, Gus was way too mature to play. That trend has continued with Milo, except every once in a while, Milo hits the right button and gets Gus in turbo mode.
Since Gus likes things nice and chill, for his birthday, we gave him a solo day. David took Milo to camp and I worked from home. Gus loves a work from home day where he can just chill in the office on one of the office dog beds. (There are three dog beds and a couch in the office, so he has a lot of options!) He also enjoyed a bully stick.
In the afternoon, I took Gus for a walk around the neighborhood. At each intersection, I let him pick which direction we went, so he got to have the walk he wanted. Gus is a different dog when he goes on walks by himself. He seems so much more confident and happy. I wish I could figure out how to make him feel like that even when Milo is on the walk too.
That evening, David picked up Milo from camp and got pizza for us. Gus enjoyed some pizza crust. It’s his favorite meal!
Finally, the boys ended the night with Blue Bell ice cream cups. We sang happy birthday to Gus before they could eat the cups. It was pretty funny. Gus sat as still as a statue waiting for the “OK” that he could eat his ice cream. Milo stayed in a sit, but was wiggling and looking back and forth between David and me. It’s his first experience with a birthday in the house and he wasn’t sure what was happening and why he had to wait so long for the ice cream.
We hope Gus enjoyed his birthday and we can’t wait to celebrate many more with him!
