Note: As we said in our last post, we try to keep this blog light and fun, but since this is another running post, we felt it appropriate to mention that our thoughts and prayers go out to the individuals impacted by the events Monday at the Boston Marathon. Mom enjoys races and cannot believe that such a terrible thing has happened.
On Sunday of our beach vacation, Mom ran the Flying Pirate Half Marathon. Yet again, Kat and I were not allowed to provide Mom's preferred 2PP. (That's 2 puppy power.) Despite our inability to pull her along the 13.1 mile course, we did put all of our efforts into cheering her on. Here we are at the starting line, before sending Mom off to her corral to line up.
We were pretty nervous about letting Mom run the race because normally we don't let her run off-leash, but she promised she wouldn't run away and would meet us at the finish line.
Here's Mom racing by us just after the start.
After seeing her off, Dad, Kat, and I went to the four mile point to make sure Mom was on track. As you can see, Kat was pretty nervous while waiting. She couldn't even watch the race, she was so nervous!
I was more relaxed.
Soon enough, here came Mom! She waved to us as she went by.
Next we went to the 8.5 mile point so see Mom as she ran around the Wright Brothers National Monument (that's it on top of the hill).
Mom was still looking happy when she went by us, but she must have been losing energy because she didn't wave.
Finally we went to the finish line to see Mom finish. We didn't get any pictures of her crossing the finish line because we were drinking out of some guy's cooler. (Hey, he offered!) However, we did get this picture of her after she got her medals.
We quickly put Mom back on her leash and took her back to the hotel. She got three medals this weekend because she ran the 5K, the half marathon, and since she did both, she got a Double Dare challenge medal. Go Mom!
Mom says she's going to take a break from long runs for a bit because she has to finish school and study for the bar exam. I'm a bit disappointed though because I love helping her train!
