Today we went to Washington DC to watch some of our family run the Marine Corps Marathon. It was really fun. We got to walk A LOT.
First we parked and walked a few miles to the race starting line. We arrived there just in time because as we walked up, the starting gun went off and a cannon! We were not expecting that. Neither one of us is too afraid of noises, so it was fine.
We cheered and held up our signs while the runners passed. I thought one of our signs was for me, so I was ready to run, but then Mom said it was for a different Steve.
After we saw the start, we met up with our fellow family spectator, Carinne, and walked across a bridge so we could catch the runners at their 10 mile mark. We had to wait for a while until the runners arrived. It was windy and a bit chilly, so Kat kept Mom warm.
After that spot, we were able to catch our runners two more times before we walked to the finish line. It was pretty crowded at the finish line, but we were excited!
After the first of our runners, JB, crossed the finish line we met up with him. All the runners got a box of food at the finish, including some cheese and crackers. JB was super nice and gave Kat and me some of his cheese and crackers. He knew we had worked super hard spectating and needed a snack.
After our snack, we were exhausted from following the runners, so we took a nap.
After our nap, as we headed back to the car, we saw another of our runners, JW, just as he was approaching the finish line. He was running strong! I thought he might have needed some puppy power, but I had to stay with Dad, lest Dad go running around the city off leash.
Once we made it to the car, it was time for another nap while we rode home. I hope all the marathoners also got naps!
