A silly run with Kat and Gus

A silly run with Kat and Gus

This morning we hopped in the car and drove to Brushy Creek for a four mile run. Things were a little more exciting than we expected. First, Gus got a cactus sticker stuck in his nose. David pulled it out but then when we were on the dam, Gus started freaking out. He wouldn’t go near the barrier and was trying to climb the rocks. At first I thought maybe he was going to have a seizure, but he really wasn’t acting exactly how he does before a seizure. We eventually decided that he was just afraid of heights. David and Gus sat on the big rocks as far from the fence as possible.

Gus had to run on top of the rocks all the way to the end of the dam because there was no way he was going to get any closer to the edge. Kat had no such problems.

Here’s a picture looking at the dam on the way down so you can see how much space Gus had to be on the sidewalk and still not be close to the edge. He’s such a silly boy. The picture at the top of the page is from our way back to the car. Gus didn’t seem so afraid the second time on the top of the dam.

When we go for walks, Kat walks on the right and Gus on the left. That works fine for walks, but not so great for trail running when we meet people or when other people want to pass us. Gus hated having to run on the grass to the right of the trail. David said that he was wasting a lot of energy just keeping Gus in line.

We finally made it back to the car with two sufficiently tired puppies. Four miles is about Kat’s limit now, but she still loves to go.

I’ll leave you with a picture of Gus looking cute this afternoon with a toy that he stole out of Kasyn and Lakyn’s toy box. I did not pose this picture, he must be trying to convince me to let him keep the toy by looking really cute.
