Milton - May 18, 2021 - March 23, 2023
We are heartbroken to post that our beloved Polargold’s Top Hat and Tails, Milton, passed away from lymphoma. He has been bravely fighting it since December and for most that time remained his happy self.
We brought Milton into our family on the spur of the moment. I initially declined the offer to adopt him but David thought it would be a good idea and he left the next day to drive 12 hours to pick Milton up. They had a very long trip home because Milton was very vocal and David didn’t know if he was just complaining or need a potty break, so they stopped a lot. They really bonded at one stop in Oklahoma with a dog park. David was able to let Milton be off leash and they got in some good playtime before finishing their journey to Texas.
Milton was pretty shy at first, but quickly came into his own and decided he was the boss of the house. He would yell while we prepared his breakfast and supper because we were not fast enough. David taught Milton some patience though because Milton had to sit on the rug while he was yelling!
Just a month after Milton came to live with us, we got our Airstream. Milton loved Airstreaming the most. He loved all the windows so he could be on patrol for squirrels, bunnies, or people walking past our campsite. He also loved to hang out at the campsite on his camping chair or in the hammock with David.
Once Milton was old enough, I started running with him. Before he got sick, he was really turning into a great runner. I will miss my runs with him.
One of Milton’s best characteristics was his cuddliness. He loved to sit with David and watch TV. If you started rubbing his tummy and stopped, he would paw your hand until you started back up again. We loved that!
Milton was also a good little brother to Gus and Kat. He was so gentle when playing with Kat and so persistent at annoying Gus. Sometimes I think Milton didn’t like what he got once he got Gus going, but they still had fun together.
When Kat passed away in September, we had big plans for hiking trips with “the boys” because Kat had earned her right not to hike very far by the end. Unfortunately we only had two trips with hiking before Milton got sick, but we tried to make the most of it.
Milton wasn’t here for a long time, but we tried to make it a great time.
We will miss you, little dude.
