Colorado Adventures
We just returned from a week in Breckenridge, Colorado. We usually take the pups to see snow in February, but we planned this trip earlier because we wanted Kat to be able to see some snow and were not sure how she would be doing in February. Her 16th birthday would have been October 14th, so we thought she would love to find some snow on her birthday because she loved snow more than any of our pups. After Kat passed away, we still decided to go on our trip since we were past the cancellation date on our campground reservation.
This trip was Milton’s first time out of Texas since he moved here. He added two states to his list, New Mexico and Colorado. I think he was excited when we got to Colorado. He perked up and looked out the window as soon as we crossed the state line.
We have always been lucky to have good dog travelers. There’s a lot of room in the backseat for Gus and Milton, but Milton seemed to find a way to cuddle up with Gus, much to Gus’s chagrin.
Coincidentally, my mom and dad happened to be in Colorado at the same time, so they came by our campsite on the first day we were there. It was Milton’s first time to meet his Missouri grandparents. Hopefully he made a good first impression!
On our first full day in Breckenridge, we met up with Jack, Rudy, and their parents for a hike. Milton finally met his match with Rudy. They were both talking up a storm and trying to wrestle each other down the trail. Jack and Gus just had to roll their eyes at them.
It is very nice to walk with other Siberian parents. No one asks “Who’s walking who?” Or “Where’s your sled?” And no one asks what’s wrong with Milton when he’s barking like crazy.
I worked during the day while we were there and sometimes Milton filled in for me.
It’s nice that I have a job where I can spend a week in Colorado and still stay on top of things without having to take vacation.
While we were there, Milton helped me keep up my half marathon training. Milton is a very good running buddy and is steadily improving. He no longer has to pee on everything as much and doesn’t get as distracted as he used to.
On the other hand, Gus is a good relaxing buddy.
On Kat’s birthday, we went on a big hike in her honor - 7.5 miles. I think both boys enjoyed it, though probably Milton more than Gus.
To make it up to Gus that he had to exercise, after our hike, we went and got some pizza and both boys enjoyed some crusts.
This was our longest Airstream trip with the pups and they did great. They have really gotten used to being in the Airstream and it’s nice because no matter where we go, they are familiar with it. It was especially nice on our overnight stay on the way home. We stopped around 11 PM and when we got into the Airstream, Milton was wound up. He barked, ran up and down the trailer aisle, and jumped on and off the bed. If we had been in a hotel, it would have been a problem, but in the Airstream, we just laughed at him.
Even if we didn’t find any snow, we still had a great trip. Maybe we will find snow on our next Colorado adventure.
